Major N/M20 Cork to Limerick Project Seeks Public Input on 80km Motorway Plans

Residents invited to have their say on ambitious transport scheme featuring motorway upgrades, cycling routes, and transport hubs across Munster

The long-awaited N/M20 Cork to Limerick project has reached a crucial milestone, with project developers unveiling detailed plans for public consultation on what promises to be one of Ireland's most significant transport infrastructure developments.

Limerick City and County Council is leading the ambitious scheme in partnership with Cork County Council, Cork City Council, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, and the Department of Transport. The project holds priority status in the Government's National Development Plan 2021-2030, reflecting its strategic importance for the region.

The comprehensive development encompasses 80 kilometres of new motorway infrastructure alongside an impressive 100 kilometres of active travel routes, designed to transform connectivity between Munster's two largest cities. Plans also include seven transport hubs and one dedicated freight hub, promising to revolutionise both passenger and commercial transport across the corridor.

Project team representative stated:

"We have progressed the design and environmental evaluation over the last year and now seek to inform and consult with the public and stakeholders on the developing design."

Full project details, including the developing design plans, will be accessible on the dedicated website corklimerick.ie from 2pm on Monday, 16th June 2025. For those preferring to view physical maps, these will be available at the N/M20 Project Office in Lissanalta House, Dooradoyle, Limerick, as well as local authority offices in Cork City, Mallow, and Limerick City.

The project team has organised a series of public display events, running from 12pm to 8pm on the following dates:

  • Charleville Park Hotel, Charleville on Tuesday, 17th June 2025
  • Woodlands House Hotel, Adare on Wednesday, 18th June 2025
  • Mallow GAA Sports Complex, Mallow on Thursday, 19th June 2025

For those unable to attend in person, a public webinar has been scheduled for 7pm on 24th June 2025, ensuring maximum accessibility for stakeholder participation.

Property owners within the study area will receive postal notification of the update and are being invited to engage directly with the project team through various consultation methods, including in-person meetings and online or telephone consultations.

The development represents a significant investment in regional infrastructure, with potential to dramatically improve journey times and transport options between Cork and Limerick while supporting sustainable travel through extensive cycling and walking facilities.
