Major Drug Seizure in Douglas as Gardaí Arrest Two Men
Gardaí have seized €769,000 worth of suspected illegal drugs and over €44,000 in cash following searches in Cork and Dublin as part of Operation Tara, with two men now charged and due to appear in court tomorrow morning.
The Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit arrested two men, aged in their 30s and 40s, during searches in the Douglas area on Tuesday 30th December 2025.
The operation resulted in the seizure of €700,000 worth of suspected cocaine, €60,000 of suspected cannabis, and over €40,000 in cash.
Both men were detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Garda stations in County Cork.
Follow-up searches were conducted by the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau in the Dublin 14 area on Wednesday 31st December 2025. These searches led to the discovery of an additional 0.5kg of suspected cannabis, valued at approximately €9,000, along with €4,000 in cash.
All seized drugs are currently subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland.
Both arrested men have since been charged and are expected to appear before a special sitting of Cork District Court tomorrow morning, Friday 2nd January 2026, at approximately 10:30am.
The seizure forms part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy launched by the Garda Commissioner in July 2021. The operation focuses on disrupting, dismantling, and prosecuting drug trafficking networks at international, national, and local levels.
Investigations are ongoing.
