Major Cork Rail Disruption on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October
Cork rail disruption on 3 and 4 October: Cobh, Midleton, Dublin and Tralee services cancelled, retimed or replaced by buses.
Rail passengers on several Cork routes face cancellations, retimed departures and replacement buses on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October. Iarnród Éireann has listed changes to Cobh, Midleton, Dublin and Tralee services, so it is worth checking the Journey Planner before you set out.

On the Cobh and Midleton line, many replacement buses run in pairs: a direct bus and a second bus calling at the stations in between. On the Cobh and Midleton line, engineering works between Cork, Cobh and Midleton, listed as signalling works, affect services on both days. On Saturday, every Cork to Cobh service listed, from 06:00 to 23:00, is either cancelled or replaced by bus transfers. The same applies to Cobh to Cork services, from 06:30 to 23:30.
On the Midleton side, all listed Saturday services are replaced by bus transfers: Cork to Midleton from 05:45 to 22:45, and Midleton to Cork from 06:15 to 23:15. Many of the Midleton line buses leave 15 minutes after the scheduled train time, so check the departure time for your service.
Many replacement buses run in pairs: a direct bus between Cork and Cobh or Midleton, and a second bus calling at the stations in between. Some early and late services have only the bus calling at the stations.
On Sunday, all listed services between Cork and Cobh or Midleton are replaced by bus transfers. That covers Cork to Cobh from 08:00 to 23:00, Cobh to Cork from 08:30 to 23:30, Cork to Midleton from 08:15 to 22:45 and Midleton to Cork from 08:45 to 23:15.
Mallow services are also affected on Saturday. Mallow and Cobh services will operate to and from Mallow and Cork only, and the 08:20 Cork to Mallow is cancelled. Special services will run from Cork to Mallow at 10:10, 12:20, 14:05 and 16:05, and from Mallow to Cork at 10:55, 13:05, 15:05 and 17:05.
Cork to Dublin passengers are affected on Saturday, with engineering works between Limerick Junction and Charleville. Six Dublin Heuston to Cork services are cancelled: the 08:00, 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00 and 18:00. The 17:00 is deferred to 17:05 and will call additionally at Ballybrophy, Templemore, Thurles and Charleville.
In the other direction, six Cork to Dublin Heuston services are cancelled: the 07:00, 09:25, 11:25, 13:25, 15:25 and 17:25. Six more are deferred, with the 10:25, 12:25, 14:25, 16:25, 18:25 and 20:25 now departing 20 minutes later. Most of the deferred trains will call at additional stations, including Thurles, Portlaoise and Ballybrophy, and a special 08:40 Cork to Dublin Heuston will operate.
Engineering works between Killarney and Tralee on both days mean Cork to Tralee trains will operate to Killarney only, with bus transfers from Killarney to Farranfore and Tralee. On Saturday, that applies to the 06:25, 09:00 and 20:55 from Cork, with the 20:55 deferred to 21:00. On Sunday, it applies to the 08:55, 12:15, 14:50 and 18:50.
Tralee to Cork passengers will take a bus from Tralee to Farranfore and Killarney, then a train from Killarney to Cork. That affects the 17:05 and 19:05 on Saturday, and the 07:10, 17:10 and 19:15 on Sunday.
