Major Arts Bursary Opens for Cork's Jewellery and Metalwork Makers

Cork County Council has announced the opening of applications for the 2025 Dearcán Bursary, offering a year-long supported programme worth €10,000 plus studio space and facilities access. This year's programme specifically targets artists working in jewellery and fine metalwork across County Cork.

The comprehensive bursary programme, delivered in partnership with Cork County Local Enterprise Offices and Benchspace Cork, provides successful candidates with far more than just financial support. Recipients gain access to a fully equipped studio space, extensive workshop facilities, and a thriving community of fellow artists and craftspeople.

The €10,000 expenses stipend represents just one element of the package. Bursary holders also benefit from Benchspace's complete facility access, participation in makers markets, and professional development opportunities including talks and masterclasses designed to enhance both creative and commercial skills.

The programme builds on previous success stories, with past recipients including Sara Leslie, Paul McKenna, and Chris Tuohy. Each winner has used their bursary year to develop their practice and establish stronger foundations for their creative careers.

This year's focus on jewellery and fine metalwork reflects Cork's rich tradition in these crafts, offering makers in these disciplines a significant opportunity to advance their work in a supportive environment.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Mary Linehan Foley welcomed the announcement:

"This bursary award demonstrates Cork County Council's continued support for and engagement with the creative industries in Cork County. Cork County is home to many artists, makers, craftspeople and others working in the creative industries. Their work enriches our lives. It is important that we continue to nurture new talent and to assist makers in reaching their fullest potential. The Dearcán Bursary provides an excellent supportive space that allows emerging talent to develop and flourish and I congratulate our arts and enterprise services in Cork County Council and Benchspace on this initiative."

The year-long programme represents a significant investment in Cork's creative economy, providing makers with the time and resources needed to reflect on their practice while developing both artistic and commercial skills.

Applications must be submitted by 5pm on Friday, 24th October 2025. Full details and application forms are available at benchspacecork.ie.
