Macroom Buffalo Cheese Products Recalled Over Listeria Monocytogenes Risk

Macroom Buffalo Cheese Products Ltd is recalling a batch of three of its cheese products due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, with recall notices to be displayed at point of sale.

The recall affects Macroom Buffalo Cheese Mozzarella (125g), Macroom Buffalo Cheese Bocconcini (160g), and Macroom Buffalo Cheese Burrata (150g). The affected batch has a use-by date of 7 September 2026. The products are of Irish origin.

In healthy people, symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. However, in people who are more vulnerable, the infection can be severe and can lead to serious complications. People who are more vulnerable to Listeria monocytogenes infections include pregnant women, infants, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. The incubation period, the time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing, is on average three weeks but can range between three and 70 days.

Wholesalers and distributors are requested to contact their affected customers and recall or withdraw the implicated batch, and to provide a point-of-sale recall notice to their retailer customers. Retailers are requested to remove the implicated batch from sale and display recall notices at point of sale. Caterers should not use the implicated batch.

Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batch.
