M8 Collision: Fatal Incident Confirmed Near Mitchelstown
M8 closure update: Fatal collision between car and pedestrian confirmed near Mitchelstown. Northbound lanes J11-J12 remain closed for investigation.

Updated: The M8 motorway closure this morning follows a fatal collision between a car and pedestrian that occurred on Saturday night near Mitchelstown.
The northbound carriageway between junctions 11 and 12 remains closed following the incident at Carrigane, Mitchelstown, which occurred at approximately 9:15pm on Saturday 20th September. A 40-year-old male pedestrian was fatally injured in the collision.
The victim's body has been removed to Cork University Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course. The male driver of the vehicle, aged in his 20s, was uninjured.
Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are conducting a technical examination of the scene, with diversions remaining in place. The closure is causing significant delays for traffic travelling between Cork and Dublin on one of Munster's busiest transport corridors.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward and are particularly seeking road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam recordings, from the area at the time of the collision.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Fermoy Garda Station on (025) 82 100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
Motorists are advised to consider alternative routes or adjust journey times due to ongoing delays.
