M8 Motorway Closure Continues: Southbound Lanes Shut Until Tomorrow Morning

A major section of the M8 motorway remains closed today as bridge repair works continue between Mitchelstown and Fermoy, with motorists facing diversions until Wednesday morning.

The southbound carriageway of the M8 between Junction 13 (Mitchelstown South) and Junction 14 (Fermoy) is currently closed and will remain shut until 07:00 tomorrow, Wednesday 5th November. The closure, which began at 07:00 on Monday morning, is in place to facilitate essential bridge repair works.

Cork County Council has diverted all southbound traffic via the R639, with vehicles being guided off the motorway at the relevant junctions. Local access is not being maintained during the closure period.

Motorists should be aware that once the southbound closure ends tomorrow morning, the northbound carriageway between Junction 14 (Fermoy) and Junction 13 (Mitchelstown) will then close from 07:00 on Wednesday 5th November until 07:00 on Friday 7th November for similar repair works.

The works are being carried out under Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993, with full details available on the Cork County Council website.

Anyone travelling between Cork and Dublin or using the M8 corridor should allow extra time for their journey and follow the signed diversion routes.
