Night-time works will take place on the N28 on Saturday 22 August 2026 between 8pm and midnight to alter the existing traffic management layout, as construction on the M28 project continues at locations from Rochestown through to Shanbally.

In the Rochestown area, construction of the retaining wall remains ongoing, while excavation works for the foundations of the new structure have commenced on the south side of Rochestown Road. Service diversions will be required before foundation works can progress any further.

Site clearance works on the N28 on-ramp are also due to begin next week, and bridge surface upgrade works on the existing N28 remain ongoing.

At Mount Oval, excavation works for the new slip road continue. At Maryborough Hill, construction of the temporary access road to the newly installed temporary bridge is expected to begin in the coming weeks and will require local traffic management.

Along the Maryborough to Carr's Hill link road, kerbing works are progressing, with surfacing scheduled as the next phase of construction.

In the Shannon Park area, construction of the structure continues. Precast concrete beams are scheduled for delivery on the night of 31 August 2026 between 11pm and 4am, and due to their size the beams will travel under escort during overnight hours. Road works on the L2473 and the new R611 tie-in are also scheduled to commence during the week beginning 31 August 2026.

Elsewhere, works on the structure at Rock Road remain ongoing. Machinery crossings continue at Cogan's Road, while in Shanbally (Marion Terrace), preparations for the new overbridge continue, with structure foundation works expected to commence in the coming weeks.

Traffic Management

Traffic management will be introduced on the south side of Rochestown Road shortly to facilitate structure foundation works, and site clearance will also commence adjacent to the site compound. Additional night-time traffic management will be in place on the N28 on 22 August 2026 between 8pm and midnight.

The Rochestown off-ramp remains reduced to a single lane, while daytime traffic management will be required on the N28 on-ramp during site clearance works.

At Maryborough Hill, temporary traffic lights will be in operation during working hours over the coming weeks to facilitate construction of the temporary bridge access road. Flagmen remain in place at Mount Oval, while traffic management continues on the R855, R609, Ballinrea Road, and along the R611 verge to facilitate plant crossings and earthworks.

Intermittent flagmen, traffic lights, and stop/go controls will also remain in operation at Board of Works Road, Cogan's Road, and Shanbally (Marion Terrace) as construction activities progress.

Rock excavation by means of controlled blasting has recommenced in an area of cutting to the north of the Shannonpark Roundabout.

Further updates on the scheme are published by the M28 project team at m28.ie.
