Leaving Cert Students Urged to "Let Go" and Focus on Summer Well-being as Final Exams Conclude
Leaving Cert finished? Time to let go and focus on your summer well-being. Free mental health support available at Turn2Me.ie for all students.

As the Leaving Certificate concludes tomorrow, mental health charity Turn2Me is encouraging students across Ireland to resist the urge to over-analyse their exam performance and instead focus on positive distractions over the summer months.
The national charity, which offers free professional mental health support online, warns against the common tendency to conduct "post-mortems" on exam papers or compare answers with friends, as this often leads to unnecessary anxiety and negative thought spirals.
Fiona O'Malley, CEO of Turn2Me:
"Once you walk out of that exam hall, the best thing you can do for your mental health is to let it go. You've done your best, and that's all anyone can ask. Now it's time to focus on your well-being."
Turn2Me recommends several practical strategies for students to move forward constructively. Getting a summer job, whether in retail, hospitality, or local businesses, can provide structure and a sense of purpose whilst offering a welcome distraction from dwelling on results. The charity also advocates focusing on hobbies and sports, such as football, art, swimming, or music, as powerful tools for stress reduction.
Volunteering with local charities, youth groups, or community initiatives is highlighted as another beneficial option, offering both personal satisfaction and positive community contribution.
Beyond staying active, Turn2Me advises students to incorporate simple mental health practices into their routines.
Fiona O'Malley:
"Try deep breathing techniques, spend time in nature, or explore yoga and mindfulness. Even 10 minutes a day can make a difference to your mood and stress levels."
For those concerned about costs, O'Malley suggests utilising free online resources: "YouTube is a fantastic resource. There are thousands of free yoga and Pilates classes available online that anyone can follow from home, with no need for special equipment."
The charity emphasises that Leaving Certificate results do not define personal worth or future prospects.
Fiona O'Malley:
"You are more than your academic performance. There are so many pathways to success and fulfilment that don't depend on points alone. Whether it's through apprenticeships, PLC courses, conversion courses, or completely different routes, your Leaving Cert is just one part of your journey."
