Learner Driver's Car Seized After Mobile Phone Use and Multiple Defects in Cork City

A learner driver in Cork City had their vehicle seized by Gardaí on Sunday after being caught using a mobile phone while driving without a qualified supervisor, with the profane writing on the car proving somewhat prophetic.

An Garda Síochána Cork seized the vehicle on 9 November following multiple road traffic violations. The learner permit holder was detected using a mobile phone while driving and had no full licence holder present in the vehicle as required by law.

Upon inspection, Gardaí also discovered multiple vehicle defects, compounding the list of offences.

In a social media post shared on Tuesday, Gardaí noted the irony of the situation, pointing out that the profanity-laden self-deprecating insult scrawled on the car's rear "summed it up rather well".

Under Irish road traffic law, learner permit holders must be accompanied by a qualified driver holding a full licence. The use of mobile phones while driving is strictly prohibited, with drivers required to pull over safely before using their device.

The seizure serves as a reminder of the serious consequences facing drivers who breach road traffic legislation, particularly learner drivers who fail to comply with permit conditions.
