Kinsale Kidathlon Returns to Dock Beach This Sunday with Focus on Fun Over Competition
Kinsale Kidathlon returns Sunday! Kids 6-15 swim, cycle & run at Dock Beach. No winners, just fun.

The Kinsale Kidathlon celebrates its 12th year this Sunday, 20 July, at Dock Beach, welcoming young athletes aged 6 to 15 for a day of swimming, cycling, and running where everyone's a winner.
This unique children's triathlon has built its reputation on inclusivity rather than competition, with no podiums or winners declared. Instead, the focus remains on personal achievement and the joy of completing a multi-sport challenge.
Participants tackle age-appropriate courses starting from just 200 metres, with swimming reserved for children aged eight and over. The event offers an accessible entry point for young people to engage with sport in a supportive atmosphere, all for a modest €15 registration fee.
Andrew Lockington, Race Director and Kinsale Triathlon Club member:
"The Kinsale Kidathlon truly embodies the spirit of our community. It's more than just a race; it's a day where you see kids pushing their limits with huge smiles, often helping each other across the finish line. That's the real win here."
The volunteer-led event relies on hundreds of dedicated community members, with Kinsale Triathlon Club members temporarily setting aside their own training to ensure the day runs smoothly. Local sponsor Lidl also provides vital support for the event.
Registration remains open via triathlonireland.com (navigate to 'Find a Race'). Participants should arrive at Dock Beach by 9:30 AM on Sunday for briefing and goodie bag collection, with the race starting at 11:00 AM.
Essential safety requirements include compulsory wetsuits for all swimmers and helmets for all cyclists. Organisers emphasise their third rule is equally important: "Have fun!"
The Kinsale Kidathlon continues to champion healthy participation over competition, creating lasting memories for families while inspiring the next generation of active individuals in Cork.
