Jack Lynch Tunnel to Close for Three Consecutive Nights This Week
Jack Lynch Tunnel closed 21:00-04:00 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights this week.
Motorists using Cork's Jack Lynch Tunnel are being advised to plan alternative routes as Transport Infrastructure Ireland announces three consecutive nights of full closures starting tomorrow evening.
The tunnel, a critical link on Cork's South Ring Road, will be completely closed from 21:00 to 04:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights this week.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland confirmed the scheduled closures via social media, giving advance notice to the thousands of motorists who rely on the tunnel for their daily commute and travel across the city.
The closures will take place from 21:00 on Tuesday 7th October until 04:00 on Wednesday 8th October, repeating the same hours on Wednesday into Thursday and Thursday into Friday morning.
The Jack Lynch Tunnel carries a significant portion of Cork's traffic beneath the River Lee, linking the N40 South Ring Road and providing a vital connection between Cork's southside and the airport, Blackpool and the north of the city.
Motorists travelling during these hours should allow extra time for their journeys and consider alternative routes. The N40 Dunkettle Interchange and the city centre bridges will likely see increased traffic volumes as drivers seek to avoid the closure.
Those with early morning commutes on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday should note that the tunnel will reopen at 04:00, though it may take some time for traffic flow to normalise.
The closures come at a time when Cork's roads are already busy, with the school year in full swing and typical weekday traffic patterns in effect. Evening travellers heading to Cork Airport or crossing the city should factor in additional journey time.
