Jack Lynch Tunnel Southbound Closure Tonight from 9pm

Motorists planning to use the Jack Lynch Tunnel this evening should be aware that the southbound bore will be closed from 9pm tonight (Thursday 31st July) until 4am Friday morning. The overnight closure is part of ongoing maintenance works at the crucial Cork transport link.

The seven-hour closure will affect traffic heading southbound through the tunnel, with diversions in place via the city centre routes. Drivers are advised to plan alternative routes or allow extra time for their journeys during these hours.

This closure is part of a series of scheduled overnight maintenance works throughout August. Similar southbound closures are planned for next week from Monday 4th to Thursday 7th August, all running from 9pm to 4am the following morning.

Further closures are scheduled for mid-August, with works planned from 12th to 14th August during the same overnight hours. Late August will see more intensive works, with southbound closures on 29th and 30th August featuring a northbound contraflow system to manage traffic flow.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland schedules these essential maintenance works during overnight hours to minimise disruption to the approximately 70,000 vehicles that use the tunnel daily. The regular maintenance ensures the tunnel, which opened in 1999, continues to operate safely and efficiently.

Motorists can check the full schedule of upcoming closures and plan their journeys accordingly by visiting the official Jack Lynch Tunnel website at jacklynchtunnel.ie/tunnel-closures.

The tunnel's maintenance team reminds drivers to follow all diversion signs and respect the temporary speed limits in place during the works.
