Jack Lynch Tunnel Southbound Closure Tonight from 9pm
Jack Lynch Tunnel closes southbound tonight 9pm-4am.

Motorists are advised that the southbound bore of the Jack Lynch Tunnel will close tonight, Wednesday 30 July, from 9pm to 4am for scheduled maintenance works.
The closure is part of an extensive maintenance programme that will see multiple overnight closures throughout August. Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has scheduled these works during overnight hours to minimise disruption to Cork's busy commuter traffic.
Drivers travelling southbound through the tunnel after 9pm tonight will need to use alternative routes. The N40 South Ring Road remains open in both directions via the Mahon interchange, providing the main diversion route for those heading towards areas south of the city.
The maintenance schedule shows additional southbound closures planned for tomorrow night (31 July) and Thursday night (1 August), also running from 9pm to 4am. Further closures are scheduled throughout August, with works planned for 4-7 August, 12-14 August, and 29-30 August.
Of particular note, the final two closures on 29 and 30 August will include northbound contraflow arrangements, allowing two-way traffic to use the northbound bore while southbound maintenance is carried out.
Regular users of the tunnel, particularly those working night shifts or travelling to Cork Airport for early morning flights, should plan their journeys accordingly. The Dunkettle interchange provides an alternative route for those travelling from the east of the city.
Motorists are encouraged to check the official Jack Lynch Tunnel website at jacklynchtunnel.ie for the most up-to-date closure information.
The tunnel, which carries approximately 70,000 vehicles daily during peak periods, requires regular maintenance to ensure safety standards are maintained.
As TII Traffic reminds drivers: "Be the driver you'd want beside you," especially when navigating diversions during these closure periods.
