HSE Health App Takes Top Honours at National Tech Awards
HSE Health App wins Public Sector Project of the Year at Tech Excellence Awards 2025. Over 75,000 downloads since February launch.

The HSE Health App has been recognised as the standout public sector digital project of 2025, claiming the Public Sector Project of the Year award at the prestigious Tech Excellence Awards. Since launching in February, the app has attracted over 75,000 downloads and nearly 60,000 verified users across Ireland.
The award recognises the app's role as a pioneering step in Ireland's digital health transformation under the Digital for Care framework. Initially offering access to maternity hospital appointments, medical cards, European Health Insurance Cards, vaccination records, and medication lists, the app is now expanding its reach to include specialist appointments at major Dublin hospitals including The Rotunda, the National Maternity Hospital, and the Coombe.
Bernard Gloster, CEO of the HSE, said:
"The award is a testament to the hard work and expertise of all the teams involved in developing and delivering the HSE Health App. The app itself represents an important step towards making personal health information available, putting each patient at the centre of their healthcare journey. It empowers people by providing a single app to manage their digital health identity, personal health information, health and social care coordination, and access to services."
The expansion now includes gynaecological, endocrinological, colposcopy, and dietetics appointments, marking a significant broadening of digital health services available to patients. This development reflects the HSE's commitment to putting patients in control of their healthcare journey whilst improving access to essential services.
Damien McCallion, HSE Chief Technology and Transformation Officer, said:
"We are making steady inroads towards the digitalisation and integration of Ireland's health and social care services. The HSE Health App, a major priority, is the first step. Additional digital transformation programmes such as the National Shared Care Record, and the National Electronic Health Record, represent a clear and stepwise approach as we work towards the delivery of integrated electronic health records across the health system."
The app forms part of a broader digital health strategy that includes the National Shared Care Record and National Electronic Health Record systems, both designed to create integrated electronic health records across Ireland's health system. These initiatives aim to transform healthcare delivery for both patients and medical staff nationwide.
Users have provided overwhelmingly positive feedback since the app's launch, with the HSE continuing to gather input to inform future developments. The organisation emphasises that traditional methods of accessing healthcare remain available for those who prefer not to use digital services, whilst working with advocacy groups to ensure the app remains inclusive and accessible.
Support for app users is available through HSE Live, and the free app can be downloaded from both the App Store and Google Play. More information is available at hse.ie/health-app.
