HSE Health App Surpasses 125,000 Registered Users as New Features Transform Patient Access
HSE Health App hits 125,000 users with new features including hospital waiting lists and GP referral access.
The HSE Health App has reached a significant milestone with over 125,000 registered users and more than 210,000 downloads since its launch in 2025, the Minister for Health has confirmed.
Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD welcomed the rapid growth, encouraging more people to sign up for the free service that gives patients direct access to their health information. The app, available to anyone aged 16 and over, has introduced substantial new features in its Version 4 update released in November.
The latest enhancements allow patients to view hospital waiting lists for day case and inpatient care, eliminating the need for letters or phone calls to confirm their status. Users receive notifications when appointments are scheduled. The app now provides access to GP general referrals, which account for 85 per cent of referrals, with specialist referrals set to be added mid-way through 2026.
Minister Carroll MacNeill said:
It's fantastic to see so many people already using the HSE Health App and I encourage everyone aged 16 and over to download it today. This app is transforming how patients manage their health from viewing hospital appointments to checking GP referrals and their own vaccination records. These features give people more control and convenience and there's even more coming later this year, ensuring the app continues to evolve to meet patient needs."
The app includes appointments from 35 hospitals and BreastCheck screening services. Users can check their waiting list status, access GP referral information, and view vaccination records from their mobile device.
HSE Chief Technology and Transformation Officer Damien McCallion said:
"The addition of waiting list information and GP referral features have enabled patients to get more up-to-date information about their patient journey. We are transforming and improving healthcare for people in Ireland through Digital for Care, with the app being one element of a wide range of innovative digital initiatives."
Current features include digital versions of health cards, including Medical Cards and European Health Insurance Cards, COVID-19 and flu vaccine records, a medicine and allergy tracker, smoking cessation support through the Quit plan, and pregnancy week-by-week information. Users can also access a health services finder.
The HSE plans quarterly updates throughout 2026, with upcoming releases to include physical activity tools, direct access to scans and test results, more hospital and community appointments, wait time information for scheduled tests or treatments, and tailored chronic condition management support.
The HSE Health App is available for free download from Google Play or the App Store. More information is available at www.hse.ie/HSEapp.
