HSE Health App Expands to Show Hospital Appointments for 900,000 Patients Nationwide

More than 900,000 patients across 31 hospitals can now view their appointments through the HSE Health App from today, marking a significant expansion of digital health services in Ireland.

The update, announced on 11 September 2025, makes it considerably easier for patients to track their hospital visits and access personal health information in one centralised location. The app, which has been downloaded over 145,000 times since its February launch, previously only displayed maternity appointments.

Cork residents attending participating hospitals will benefit from the enhanced functionality, which includes appointment details, directions, parking information, and estimated journey times. The expansion comes as part of the HSE's broader Digital for Care programme, aimed at transforming Ireland's health services through technology.

Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD said:

"I am delighted that so many more patients can now view their appointments in the HSE Health App from today. This will make it easier for them to keep track of their appointments when they download and log in to the app, and I would encourage everyone to do so."

The latest version also introduces the QUIT smoking cessation service, allowing users to access personalised stop-smoking plans and one-to-one support from trained advisors directly through the app.

Current features include viewing hospital and BreastCheck screening appointments, accessing digital health cards including Medical Cards and European Health Insurance Cards, checking COVID-19 and flu vaccination records, and maintaining personal medication lists.

Damien McCallion, HSE Chief Technology and Transformation Officer said:

"Digital for Care, the digitisation of our health services, is a key programme of work aiming to significantly transform and improve the quality and safety of healthcare for people in Ireland. The evolving HSE Health App is an essential tool as we move towards a single digital health record for everyone."

The rollout represents the first phase of a more comprehensive digital transformation. Telehealth appointments will be added early next year, with plans eventually allowing patients to book, reschedule, or cancel certain appointments directly through the app.

Future enhancements will include waiting list information, full maternity chart access for expectant mothers, additional self-care resources, and expanded personal health data access.

The HSE continues working with remaining public hospitals nationwide to enable appointment viewing, with all facilities expected to join the platform during 2026 as hospital systems receive upgrades.

Users require a verified MyGovID account to access personal health information, ensuring secure identification and data protection. The app remains compatible with Android devices running version 10.1 or above, and iPhones from iPhone 6 onwards with iOS 13.4 or later.

The complete list of participating hospitals and services is available on the HSE website, with the app downloadable free from both the App Store and Google Play.
