HSE App Now Shows Waiting Lists and GP Referrals for Irish Patients
HSE Health App now shows your hospital waiting lists and GP referrals.
The HSE Health App has launched major new features today, allowing patients across Ireland to track their hospital waiting lists and GP referrals directly from their smartphones.
The free app, which has been downloaded over 190,000 times since its February launch, now displays day case and inpatient waiting lists across 35 hospitals. Patients will receive notifications when appointments are made, removing the need to rely solely on physical letters for updates.
The update also includes general GP referrals, which account for approximately 85% of all referrals. Specialist referrals will be added next year.
Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD, said:
"This latest app release offers patients access to more of their own health information showing the pace of development since the HSE Health App was launched in February of this year. By enhancing the app to provide better visibility of referrals sent by their GP and more information on waiting lists, we are taking one more step towards empowering patients."
Damien McCallion, HSE Chief Technology and Transformation Officer, said:
"Approximately 500 people are downloading the Health App every day. There have been over 190,000 app downloads and over 275,000 appointments displayed to app users since it was launched providing a great benefit to our patients. It's also now the number one free health app in Ireland."
Additional features in today's release include health data for patients on the Structured Chronic Disease Management Programme and a trial post-treatment support programme for prostate cancer patients at University Hospital Galway.
The app currently provides access to appointments at 35 hospitals and BreastCheck screening centres, digital health cards including Medical Cards and European Health Insurance Cards, COVID-19 and flu vaccine records, reimbursed medicines lists, smoking cessation support, and pregnancy information.
Anyone aged 16 and over can download the app from Google Play or the App Store. A verified MyGovID account is required to access personal health information, which requires a PPS number and Public Services Card.
The HSE app is part of Digital for Care, Ireland's health and social care digital framework to 2030, designed to improve healthcare delivery through digital innovation.
