High Spring Tides May Cause Surface Water on Cork City Quays Tomorrow Morning
Flood Warning: Drive with caution and allow extra travel time.
Cork City Council has issued a warning for motorists and pedestrians ahead of high spring tides expected tomorrow morning, with surface water possible on several low-lying quays in the city centre.
The combination of high spring tides and a tidal storm surge at approximately 8:20am on Friday, 23 January could result in surface water affecting Kyrl's Quay, Lavitt's Quay, Union Quay, and Wandsford Quay.
Road users travelling through these areas during the morning rush hour are advised to drive with extra caution, stay alert to changing conditions, and allow additional time for their commute.
The warning comes as Cork enters a period of particularly high tides, which can cause localised flooding along the River Lee when combined with weather-related surges.
Motorists are reminded to never attempt to drive through floodwater, as even shallow water can be deeper than it appears and may conceal hazards.
