  • National Broadband Ireland has activated fibre connections for homes, businesses and farms in two major Cork deployment areas, bringing the total number of premises able to access high-speed broadband across the county to over 48,000.

National Broadband Ireland (NBI) announced today that over 5,300 Cork premises near Eyeries and Kinsale can now connect to high-speed fibre broadband through the National Broadband Plan network.

The expansion includes 1,753 premises in the Eyeries deployment area and 3,568 premises in the Kinsale deployment area, all eligible for minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second. Residents and businesses can check their eligibility by visiting nbi.ie/map/ and entering their Eircode.

Cork County is receiving €314 million of Government investment under the National Broadband Plan, described as the biggest investment in rural Ireland since rural electrification. The State's Intervention Area covers 82,000 premises across the county.

TJ Malone, Chief Executive Officer, National Broadband Ireland: "We are delighted to announce that over 1,700 Cork premises near Eyeries and almost 3,600 near Kinsale can now order high-speed broadband services through the NBI network. This will enable those who connect to experience the life-changing benefits of high-speed broadband with minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second."

The rollout has already reached other parts of Cork, with completed works in the rural surrounds of Kanturk, Midleton, and Carrigaline. Across the entire county, 48,009 premises can now pre-order or order high-speed broadband, with 14,996 connections established to date.

Construction continues in other areas, with over 3,400 premises near Skibbereen currently in the build phase and expected to connect by spring 2026. Residents can sign up for email notifications at nbi.ie/eoi/ to receive updates on their area's rollout progress.

As a wholesale network operator, NBI works with over 50 licensed broadband providers rather than selling directly to customers. The full range of available providers for each area can be found at NBI.ie/buy.

The network also includes 955 Broadband Connection Points nationwide, providing free public internet access at locations such as sports clubs, community centres and tourist sites. Cork examples include Mealagh Valley Community Centre, Laharn Heritage Centre, and Ionadh Áise.

Nationally, NBI has passed over 381,000 homes, farms and businesses with over 134,000 connected. Take-up rates average 35% across the network and approach 60% in areas where the service has been available longest.
