Government Launches €350,000 in Grants for Parent and Toddler Groups
Minister launches €350k in grants for parent and toddler groups. Cork families can apply through local Childcare Committees from today.
Minister for Children, Disability and Equality Norma Foley has today launched applications for €350,000 in funding to support parent and toddler groups across Ireland, including Cork.
The grants, announced on Thursday, 15 January, can be used for children's toys, equipment, books, refreshments, arts and crafts, music activities, and parenting courses including first aid training. Cork families can apply through their local City and County Childcare Committees from today.
The initiative aims to help parents and children establish connections and promote inclusion of families from all backgrounds, abilities and cultures. There are hundreds of parent and toddler groups operating around the country, providing vital community support for families with young children.
Minister Foley said:
"I'm delighted to be supporting the remarkable work of the Parent and Toddler groups who provide a valuable opportunity for parents/carers with younger children to meet up in the community. These groups are especially useful for new parents and parents who are new to an area."
New and standalone parent and toddler groups can receive up to €1,000, while groups that are part of larger organisations can receive up to €800. The funding can cover a wide range of items including cleaning supplies, storage equipment, promotional leaflets, and first aid kits.
Insurance and rent costs are also eligible, with standalone groups able to claim up to 70% of their total funding for these expenses, while groups within larger organisations can claim up to 50%.
The grants also support Buggy Walking Groups, which organise social walks for parents, guardians and young children. These groups must offer a minimum of six organised walks within their community, with funding available for refreshments, information leaflets and insurance.
Cork parents interested in applying should contact their local City or County Childcare Committee. A full list of committees is available at gov.ie. Conditions apply and committees are available to discuss requirements with both new and existing groups.
While traditionally aimed at parents, the groups welcome children with childminders, grandparents and other guardians.
