Gardaí Warn Public of Scam Emails Impersonating Senior Officers
Gardaí warn of scam emails impersonating senior officers demanding money transfers. Delete immediately and never share personal information.
An Garda Síochána has issued an urgent warning about fraudulent emails claiming to be from senior members of the force, falsely informing recipients they are under criminal investigation and demanding money transfers to resolve the matter.
The scam emails, which began circulating in recent days, attempt to intimidate innocent people by claiming they are being investigated for serious criminal offences. The fraudulent messages typically direct victims to transfer money through various methods, falsely promising this will clear their name.

Gardaí confirmed this morning that they are fully aware of the scam and emphasised that An Garda Síochána will never contact members of the public in this manner. The force has also made clear that it will never request money transfers to bank accounts under any circumstances.
To protect yourself from these fraudulent emails, gardaí recommend deleting them immediately upon receipt. Recipients should never share personal information with the sender and should always verify the legitimacy of any correspondence by checking whether it comes from an official Garda email address.
Anyone who believes they have engaged with such a scam should contact their local Garda station as soon as possible to report the incident.
The warning comes as email-based fraud continues to evolve, with scammers increasingly impersonating trusted institutions and law enforcement agencies to exploit fear and extract money from victims.
