Gardaí Renew Appeal in Kyran Durnin Murder Investigation as Search Intensifies
  • Gardaí investigating the disappearance and murder of six-year-old Kyran Durnin have revealed that over 570 investigative actions have been taken in the case, with detectives now reviewing more than 29,500 hours of CCTV footage as the search for answers continues.

The investigation team at Drogheda Garda Station has issued a fresh appeal for information about Kyran, who would now be nine years old. The last known images of the child were captured in June 2022 when he was six years old, and despite extensive enquiries, gardaí have been unable to locate him or determine what happened.

Two people, a woman and a man, have been arrested on suspicion of murder as part of the investigation. The case has seen significant resources deployed, with three domestic properties and adjoining lands searched, including excavation works and full forensic examinations at each location.

The scale of the investigation reflects the determination to find answers, with electronic devices seized and analysed alongside the massive CCTV review operation that remains ongoing. Gardaí are continuing to work closely with TUSLA, the child and family agency, as part of their enquiries.

A Senior Investigation Officer leading the case from an incident room at Drogheda Garda Station acknowledged the extensive public commentary surrounding Kyran's disappearance, including speculation and theories about what may have happened.

However, gardaí stressed that members of the public should not assume investigators already know information they might possess. They emphasised that any detail, regardless of how insignificant it might seem, could prove valuable to the investigation team, with all information to be treated in the strictest confidence.

The investigation team has urged anyone with information to contact Drogheda Garda Station on 041 987 4200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.

The case has drawn significant attention across Ireland, with the young age of the victim and the length of time since his last confirmed sighting raising serious questions about child protection and welfare monitoring systems.

As the investigation continues, gardaí remain committed to determining what happened to Kyran and bringing those responsible to justice.
