Gardaí Remove 33 Convicted Foreign Nationals from Ireland
Gardaí remove 33 convicted foreign nationals from Ireland today, including multiple offenders for dangerous driving and driving while intoxicated.
An Garda Síochána has removed 33 foreign nationals with criminal convictions from Ireland following a coordinated operation on Sunday.
The Garda National Immigration Bureau carried out the operation today, Sunday 25th January, removing individuals on foot of EU Removal Orders with Exclusion Orders banning re-entry into the State for up to 10 years.
The operation resulted in the removal of 33 adults, comprising 31 males and 2 females ranging in age from their early 20s to early 60s. All individuals were removed on a chartered flight which departed Dublin earlier today for Poland and onwards to Lithuania.
The targeted individuals are 17 Polish and 16 Lithuanian nationals who have a criminal history in Ireland and have been convicted before the courts and received custodial sentences for their crimes.
Twenty individuals had been currently serving prison sentences and were removed directly from Irish Prison Service custody. The other thirteen individuals were arrested and detained from communities across Ireland and were lodged in prison prior to their removal today.
The removal of these 33 individuals, all convicted of offences in this jurisdiction, supports ongoing Garda operations nationwide including Operation Moonridge targeting sex offenders and domestic violence offenders, Operation Táirge targeting organised retail crime, Operation Tara targeting drug networks, and Operation Thor targeting burglary offences.
Among those removed were individuals with multiple convictions for road traffic offences including dangerous driving, driving while intoxicated and driving without insurance.
An Garda Síochána continues to work closely with the Department of Justice in implementing immigration policy and the Irish Prison Service in the implementation of these operations.
