Gardaí Issue Tickets to Drivers Misusing Western Road Bus Lanes
Reminder: Buses, taxis, bikes and escooters only in bus lanes.

Cork city drivers faced fines today after Gardaí conducted a targeted operation on Western Road following numerous complaints about illegal use of bus lanes.
The Community Policing Unit from Bridewell station carried out the enforcement action on Tuesday morning, responding to reports of motorists inappropriately using the designated bus lanes along one of Cork's busiest routes.
An Garda Síochána Cork issued a public reminder that bus lanes are restricted to specific vehicles only. Drivers are only permitted to use bus lanes if they are operating a bus, driving a licensed taxi, or using a bicycle, ebike, or escooter.
The operation resulted in multiple tickets being issued for road traffic offences. Western Road, which connects the city centre to the western suburbs, carries heavy traffic throughout the day and has dedicated bus lanes to maintain public transport efficiency.
Bus lanes are clearly marked with distinctive road markings and signage to prevent confusion. The restrictions typically operate during peak hours when traffic congestion is heaviest, making compliance essential for maintaining smooth traffic flow.
Cork's bus lane network forms a crucial part of the city's transport infrastructure, helping to keep public transport moving efficiently while reducing overall traffic congestion. Illegal use of these lanes can significantly impact bus schedules and create safety hazards.
The Gardaí operation highlights ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with traffic regulations in Cork city centre. Similar enforcement actions may continue at other locations where bus lane violations have been reported.
Drivers caught using bus lanes inappropriately face fixed penalty notices and potential court proceedings for more serious violations.
