Gardaí Continue Multi-Agency Search for Escaped Detainee

A manhunt continues across multiple counties as Gardaí work with national and regional agencies to locate a male detainee who escaped from Kilkenny Garda Station on Monday evening.

The individual, who had been held as part of ongoing criminal investigations since his arrest on 18th September, fled custody on the evening of 22nd September 2025. He was last spotted on Emmet Street, Kilkenny, shortly after 8:00pm.

Extensive searches have been carried out across residential properties and lands throughout County Kilkenny as part of the investigation. The operation has expanded beyond local resources, with investigators now liaising with other national and regional agencies to support the search efforts.

One significant arrest has been made in connection with the escape. A man in his 40s was detained on suspicion of aiding and abetting an unlawful escape from custody under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. He was held at a Garda station in the Eastern Region before being released pending a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí spokesperson:

"We wish to thank members of the local community for their continued cooperation and assistance during the search efforts."

The force has emphasised that whilst the search continues, they are satisfied the escaped detainee does not pose an immediate threat to the public.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is urged to contact the incident room at Kilkenny Garda Station on 056 777 5000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
