Gardaí have arrested and released a man in his 20s over alleged threats to an elected representative linked to fuel protests.

Gardaí in the south of Ireland have arrested a man in connection with alleged threats made against an elected representative, in a development linked to the ongoing fuel protests and blockades.

The male, aged in his 20s, was arrested this morning, Wednesday 15 April 2026, under Section 5 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997, which relates to threats to kill or cause serious harm.

The man has since been released without charge. A file will now be prepared and submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions for consideration.

Gardaí have confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing and no further information is available.
