Garda Fleet Begins Trial of First Fully Electric Van
An Garda Síochána has begun trialling its first fully electric van, a Kia PV5 fitted with prisoner transport and space for four officers.
An Garda Síochána has begun real-world testing of its first 100% electric van, a specially adapted Kia PV5 that will spend the coming weeks on the road as the force assesses its range, reliability and performance.
The force announced the addition to its fleet on social media, describing the vehicle as more than a standard EV. It has been custom-built for the job, with space for four Gardaí to travel together and secure prisoner accommodation fitted into the rear.
An Garda Síochána said the zero-emission van supports its move toward a more sustainable fleet. The force has not specified which station, division or route will operate the vehicle during the trial, or how long the test period will run beyond "the coming weeks".
The Kia PV5 is Kia's first dedicated electric van model, built on the manufacturer's Platform Beyond Vehicle architecture.
