Garda checkpoint on the N25 near Midleton this week uncovered a learner driver, unaccompanied with two unrestrained children, no tax, no insurance, bald tyres and a positive cocaine test.

A multi-agency checkpoint on the N25 near Midleton earlier this week resulted in serious road safety and drug-related discoveries, with court proceedings now to follow.

The checkpoint, carried out by An Garda Síochána alongside agency partners, was focused on illegal dumping and general road safety compliance.

During the operation, Gardaí stopped a learner driver who was travelling unaccompanied, in breach of learner permit rules. Two children in the vehicle were found to be unrestrained.

Officers also identified that the vehicle had no tax, no insurance, and bald tyres. The driver subsequently tested positive for cocaine.

Court proceedings are to follow in relation to the offences detected.
