FSAI Recalls SuperValu Seed Mix and Gem Pack Sesame Seeds Products Over Salmonella
FSAI recalls SuperValu Seed Mix and Gem Pack, Sysco and Sowans sesame seed products over Salmonella. Do not eat implicated batches.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued two separate recalls due to the presence of Salmonella, affecting SuperValu Seed Mix and a range of Gem Pack, Sysco and Sowans sesame seed products.
SuperValu Seed Mix
The recall affects SuperValu Seed Mix, 200g pack size, batch codes 163 and 166, best before May 2027, and 191, best before June 2027. It is listed under alert notification 2026.49 and classified as Category 1, For Action.
"The above batches of SuperValu Seed Mix are being recalled due to the presence of Salmonella. Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale in SuperValu stores."
Retailers are requested to remove the implicated batches from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale. Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batches.
Gem Pack Sesame Seeds Products
A separate recall, alert notification 2026.50, also Category 1, For Action, covers several sesame seed products due to the presence of Salmonella:

Retailers are requested to remove the implicated batches from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale. Wholesalers and distributors are requested to contact affected customers, recall the implicated batches, and provide a point-of-sale recall notice to their customers. Caterers should not use the implicated batches. Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batches.
Nature of Danger
The FSAI states this applies to both recalls. People infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, though this can range between 6 and 72 hours. The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody. Other symptoms may include fever, headache, and abdominal cramps. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.
