Free Summer Concerts Return to Five West Cork Towns

Twenty free outdoor music performances are coming to five West Cork towns this summer, as Cork County Council's Special Music Event Scheme returns for its ninth year.

The scheme provides funding for voluntary music groups to organise and perform up to four events each in their local towns. Concerts will take place in Clonakilty, Kinsale, Skibbereen, Bandon, and Dunmanway between June and August.

The programme is already under way. Clonakilty Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann opened proceedings at the Michael Collins Mural on Kent Street on 5 June, and will return to the same venue on 19 June before heading to Spiller's Lane for two further performances in August.

In Kinsale, Ballinspittle Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann kicks off on Sunday, 21 June, performing in Jim Edwards Square from 3pm to 4.30pm. They will return on 28 June and for two further performances in August.

Skibbereen's summer programme begins on Saturday, 20 June, with St. Fachtna's Silver Band at The Bridge Plaza from 1.30pm to 3pm. The band returns on 18 July, while Skibbereen Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann will also take to The Bridge in July and August.

Bandon's events run from Saturday, 27 June through to Friday, 28 August, featuring Bandon Concert Band at Ballymodan Place and Bridge Place, and Baile Núis Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann also on the schedule.

In Dunmanway, Dunmanway Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann will present four performances in Sam Maguire Plaza, with the series beginning on 18 June.

What makes these events truly stand out is their local spirit, with community groups leading performances that feature traditional musicians as well as concert, silver, and brass bands. A total of 20 performances will take place over the summer, all free for the public to enjoy. I would warmly encourage people to come along, take in the music, and make the most of the welcoming atmosphere and unique character of our West Cork towns."
