Free Mattress Disposal Returns to Cork Today and Tomorrow
Free mattress disposal at Kinsale Road today and tomorrow 9am-3:30pm. Max 2 dry mattresses per vehicle, domestic only.

Cork City Council has brought back its popular free mattress disposal service at the Kinsale Road Civic Amenity Site, running today and tomorrow from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm following strong demand from last year's initiative.
The timing couldn't be better for those tackling summer clear-outs or preparing homes for the new school year. With many Cork households using the summer months for home improvements and decluttering, this free service offers a convenient and environmentally responsible way to dispose of old mattresses that might otherwise end up fly-tipped around the county.
The service operates with straightforward conditions: residents can bring up to two dry mattresses per vehicle, and the offer is limited to domestic customers only. Those planning to use the service should ensure their mattresses are dry, as wet or damp mattresses cannot be accepted for hygiene and processing reasons.
The Kinsale Road Civic Amenity Site, familiar to many Cork residents as a key recycling facility, will be accepting mattresses during normal operating hours both days. Given last year's popularity, residents are advised to arrive early to avoid potential queues, particularly during the morning hours when the facility typically experiences higher footfall.
This initiative addresses a common disposal challenge for Cork households, as mattresses cannot be collected through regular kerbside waste services and often incur charges at private disposal facilities. The environmental benefits are significant too, with proper mattress recycling ensuring that materials like metal springs, foam, and fabric are recovered and reused rather than ending up in landfill.
For those unable to attend today or tomorrow, the standard charges for mattress disposal will resume after 8 August. The Civic Amenity Site continues to accept a wide range of other recyclable materials year-round, though standard charges apply for many items outside of special initiatives like this one.
