Parents and carers across Cork can attend a free online session tomorrow evening on protecting children from emerging online threats, including financial and sexual extortion, AI-enabled harm, and "nudify" apps.

The Irish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children is hosting the webinar on Tuesday, 11 November at 7pm, delivered via Microsoft Teams. The hour-long session is aimed at parents and carers who want to understand current online risks and learn how to support young people who may be targeted.

Aoife Griffin, Services Manager at ISPCC, will lead the session. She will cover what parents need to know about online harms facing children and young people today, including troubling trends involving artificial intelligence tools and applications that can manipulate images.

The session will address how to recognise signs that a child may have been exposed to financial or sexual extortion online, and provide practical guidance on offering emotional support and accessing appropriate services. A question and answer session at the end will allow participants to raise specific concerns.

Key topics include the current and growing nature of online harm, emerging technology risks such as AI tools and so-called "nudify" apps, and step-by-step advice on supporting a child if something goes wrong. The focus is on equipping parents with knowledge and confidence to protect children in an increasingly complex digital landscape.

The webinar has proven popular, with several schools across the country circulating details to parents. Some schools have noted this is a repeat session due to high demand for the previous offering.

Registration is free and available through the ISPCC webinars page or directly via the Microsoft Teams registration link. The session runs from 7pm to 8pm tomorrow evening, Tuesday 11 November.
