Fota Wildlife Park to Close for Two Days Due to Suspected Bird Flu Cases
Visitor access suspended at Fota Wildlife Park for two days due to suspected bird flu.
Fota Wildlife Park will shut its doors to visitors on Tuesday and Wednesday this week after reporting suspected cases of avian influenza to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.
The popular Cork attraction announced the precautionary closure on Monday evening, with the park set to remain closed on 14th and 15th October inclusive whilst authorities investigate the suspected outbreak.
Statement from Fota Wildlife Park:
"Following a report from Fota Wildlife Park to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine regarding suspected cases of avian influenza (bird flu), public access to the Wildlife Park will be suspended on Tuesday October 14th and Wednesday, October 15th inclusive."
The park has confirmed that further updates will be shared in due course.
Avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, is a viral infection that primarily affects birds but can occasionally spread to other animals. Outbreaks in wildlife parks and zoos typically require immediate action to prevent further spread among bird populations.
The park's swift action in reporting the suspected cases to the Department of Agriculture demonstrates the protocols in place for managing potential disease outbreaks in captive wildlife populations.
Visitors who had planned trips for Tuesday or Wednesday are advised to check Fota Wildlife Park's official channels for updates on when the attraction will reopen to the public.
