First Phase Complete at Grand Parade Pumping Station as Uisce Éireann Targets Odours and Overflow Risk

Uisce Éireann has completed the first phase of improvement works at Grand Parade Pumping Station in Cork City, as part of a wider investment in wastewater services across Cork City.

Works began in early January along a short section of Sullivan's Quay, with the remainder of this phase carried out on Grand Parade. The work involved cleaning and inspecting the underground pumping station, as well as removing old redundant equipment and historical debris.

David Shalloo, Uisce Éireann Portfolio Manager, said:

"Overall, this project will improve the operation of the existing wastewater pumping station while helping to address historic malodours and reduce the risk of overflows into the River Lee. The first phase of works gave us a clearer picture of the follow-on works required for the next phase of the project."

The works were delivered by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd. on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

A further phase of the project is now planned, informed by findings from the initial works. Uisce Éireann says the overall project will improve the station's operation, tackle long-standing odour issues, and reduce the risk of wastewater entering the River Lee.
