First-of-its-Kind Youth Safety and Wellbeing Event Held in Macroom
A first-of-its-kind Youth Safety and Wellbeing event has been held in Macroom, offering young people advice across health, safety, and wellbeing.
A new event aimed at supporting the wellbeing and safety of young people in Macroom has been welcomed as a positive step for the community, bringing together a wide range of agencies under one roof.
The Macroom Youth Safety and Wellbeing event, described by An Garda Síochána as a first of its kind, offered young people practical advice and guidance across a number of important areas of their lives.
Topics covered on the day included emotional and physical wellbeing, personal safety, online safety, road safety, water safety, and the consequences of negative behaviour.
Guest speakers were drawn from a wide cross-section of organisations working with young people in Cork. Among those represented were Jigsaw, HSE Paramedics, Cork Sports Partnership, Cork County Council Road and Water Safety, Healthy Ireland, the Macroom Youth Diversion Project, Macroom Community First Responders, and An Garda Síochána.
Each contributor delivered talks aimed at being informative and relatable, ensuring the messages landed with the young audience in a meaningful way.
According to An Garda Síochána, the aim of the event was to provide advice to help young people make informed decisions about their own safety, health and wellbeing both now and into the future.
The collaborative format reflects an ongoing emphasis on multi-agency engagement when it comes to supporting young people, particularly in areas where the challenges they face cut across health, safety, and social wellbeing.
