Final Phase of Water Flushing Works to Begin in Blackrock Road Area
Uisce Éireann continues final water flushing works in Blackrock Road area from Monday 21 July. Four-night programme aims to improve water quality for local residents.

Uisce Éireann will commence the concluding round of targeted water flushing works in Cork City's Blackrock Road area on Monday, 21 July 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to improve water quality and tackle discolouration issues affecting local homes and businesses.
The four-night programme will focus on Blackrock Road from Richmond Estate to Ashcroft, along with Lindville, Janeville, Ashcroft, and Crab Lane. Works will be carried out during off-peak hours, typically starting after 10pm and finishing in the early morning to minimise disruption to residents.
This marks the final phase of the planned flushing programme in the Blackrock Road area, which forms part of Uisce Éireann's broader network improvement plan to address water discolouration across Cork City.
Brian O'Leary, Uisce Éireann Regional Operations Manager, said:
"This is the final phase of our planned flushing programme in the Blackrock Road area. We are seeing positive benefits from undertaking this programme of flushing and we will continue to closely monitor any instances of discolouration as our crews work to tackle these incidents. I would like to encourage customers to continue to report instances of discolouration through our new online reporting form or via our customer care team on 1800 278 278."
Residents may experience temporary water discolouration during the works. If this occurs, Uisce Éireann recommends running the cold kitchen tap for up to 20 minutes to restore clear water. The water remains safe to drink once running clear.
Water discolouration typically results from sediment, including naturally occurring metals such as manganese and iron, becoming dislodged from older cast iron pipes during network maintenance. The utility company has established a dedicated online reporting system for residents to log any discolouration issues at www.water.ie.
The current programme builds on Uisce Éireann's 2024 targeted flushing works, which covered seven different District Metering Areas. Earlier phases in 2025 have already addressed the Blackpool, Old Youghal Road, Mayfield, and Silversprings areas.
Signage will be erected in affected areas as works progress, and residents can check for updates on the supply and services section of the Uisce Éireann website.
