Father and Son Rescued by Crosshaven RNLI After Being Cut Off by Tide at Disused Pier
Crosshaven RNLI rescued a father and son cut off by the incoming tide at the disused pier below Camden Fort Meagher.
A father and son on an evening fishing trip were rescued by Crosshaven RNLI volunteers after the incoming tide cut off their way back along the seashore. Both casualties were unharmed.
Crosshaven RNLI volunteers were paged by the Coast Guard at 7:05pm on Friday 30 October to rescue the pair from the disused pier below Camden Fort Meagher. The two had walked along the seashore to the pier a few hours earlier to fish and had not realised their way back had been cut off by the incoming tide.
The crew of Helm Alan Venner, Conor Barry, Griff Kelleher and Darren OâKeeffe made their way to the pier in slight seas and poor visibility. They picked up the two unharmed casualties and landed them back at the lifeboat station.
Crosshaven Coast Guard gave the casualties a lift back to their car. All well.
Alan Venner commented:
âAlways be aware of the tides and the times of high water before venturing along the seashoreâ
The shore crew were Shane McAuliffe, Michael Livingstone, Hugh Mockler, Susanne Deane, Kline Pennefather and Aidan OâConnor. Micheal McCann was Launch Authority.
