Fatal Collision in Cork City Centre Claims Life of Young Cyclist
The road currently remains closed.
A female cyclist in her twenties died following a collision with a truck at a Cork city junction yesterday evening, with Gardaí now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
The fatal incident occurred at approximately 6:15pm on Thursday, 18 September at the junction of Albert Street and Albert Road. The collision involved a truck and a bicycle, with the cyclist pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victim's body was removed to the morgue at Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will be arranged. No other injuries were reported in the collision.
The road has been closed pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, with diversions in place.
Investigating Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them. They have specifically requested that road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam recordings, and were travelling in the area between 6:00pm and 6:30pm on Thursday, 18 September make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
