Facebook Hit by Outage as Users Report Being Locked Out of Accounts
Facebook is down for many users this morning, with reports of being locked out and a site error. Reports spiked shortly after 8:30am.
Facebook is experiencing problems on the morning of 19 July 2026, with users reporting that they are unable to access their accounts. Reports to outage tracking site Downdetector climbed sharply shortly after 8:30am, and affected users are being shown a message stating that their account is temporarily unavailable.
Users attempting to open Facebook have been met with an on-screen notice headed "Account Temporarily Unavailable." The full message reads: "Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes."
Downdetector, which collates user-submitted reports to track service disruptions, logged 986 reports at 8:31am on 19 July 2026. That figure sits well above the site's normal baseline of around five reports, pointing to a genuine spike rather than a handful of isolated individual problems.
Meta's own status page at metastatus.com was not showing any reported issues as the disruption unfolded. That page primarily reflects the status of Meta's business and developer tools rather than everyday access to Facebook, so it does not always capture problems being experienced by ordinary users.
The wording of the on-screen message, which refers to "a site issue," indicates the fault lies with Facebook rather than with individual users' devices, browsers or internet connections. In outages of this kind, switching device or network typically does not restore access, because the problem sits on the platform's own servers.
At the time of writing, Meta had not issued a public statement about the disruption.
