The Government has confirmed that the 2026 Electric Small Public Service Vehicle (eSPSV) Grant Scheme will open for applications this Wednesday, 25 February, with €7 million in funding available to help taxi, hackney and limousine operators make the switch to electric vehicles.

The scheme, which has been running since 2018, offers eligible operators grants of up to €25,000 depending on the type of vehicle purchased and whether an older, high-polluting vehicle is scrapped as part of the transition.

Minister for Transport Darragh O'Brien said:

"The eSPSV Scheme continues to deliver real support for those who keep our public transport network moving every day. With €7 million committed for 2026, we are continuing one of the most impactful EV transition programmes in the country. This investment ensures that taxi, hackney and limousine operators can upgrade to cleaner, more efficient vehicles, benefiting drivers, passengers and the environment alike."

Under the 2026 scheme, operators can apply for up to €7,500 towards the purchase of a new battery electric SPSV. Those who also scrap an older high-polluting vehicle can access up to €17,500, while operators purchasing a new battery electric wheelchair-accessible vehicle can receive up to €25,000.

Since its launch, the eSPSV scheme has supported more than 3,600 operators nationwide, with over €65 million allocated to date, helping reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality across Irish cities and towns.
