€2.1 Million Cannabis Haul Seized at Port of Cork

Revenue officers have seized cannabis worth €2.1 million at the Port of Cork following a major operation yesterday, with detector dog Rua playing a crucial role in uncovering the massive drug shipment hidden in a Croatian trailer.

The seizure took place on 27 July 2025 as part of Revenue's ongoing risk profiling operations targeting organised crime groups. Officers discovered 107 kilograms of herbal cannabis concealed within a trailer that had originated in Croatia.

The trailer had arrived at the Port of Cork aboard a vessel from Zeebrugge, Belgium. Revenue's detector dog Rua proved instrumental in locating the substantial drug haul during routine inspections at the busy Cork port.

A man in his 50s was arrested in connection with the seizure. He is currently being detained at a Southern Region Garda Station as investigations continue into the smuggling operation.

The discovery represents another significant blow to organised crime groups attempting to import illegal drugs through Irish ports. Revenue officials emphasised that this seizure forms part of their continued efforts to combat the importation, sale and supply of illegal substances across the country.

Members of the public or businesses with information about smuggling activities are encouraged to contact Revenue's confidential phone line on 1800 295 295. All information provided will be treated in strict confidence as authorities work to disrupt criminal networks operating in the region.

The Port of Cork continues to be a key focus for Revenue's enforcement activities, with regular seizures demonstrating the effectiveness of risk profiling and detection methods, including the valuable work of detector dogs like Rua.
