East Cork Farm Opens Sunflower Fields for Charity Picking

A family-run East Cork farm is inviting visitors to pick sunflowers throughout July and August, with half of all proceeds supporting the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland.

Joe's Farm Crisps in Killeagh has opened its spectacular five-acre sunflower fields to the public, featuring over 100,000 blooms across ten different varieties. The popular annual tradition, which began in 2021, combines a scenic family day out with charitable fundraising.

Visitors pay €30 per car for entry, which includes one bunch of sunflowers and access to walking trails with photo opportunities throughout the farm. The venue operates on a cash-only basis, extending to the on-site café and farm shop.

Joe Burns, owner of Joe's Farm Crisps, said:

"Since starting the sunflower picking in 2021 we have been able to raise money for a number of different charities every year. The Alzheimer's Society of Ireland is a cause close to our hearts here on the farm so it is great to support them."

The farm updates its sunflower picking schedule every Monday on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, as opening days can change due to weather conditions. No advance booking is required for visits.

The attraction is fully accessible for wheelchairs and buggies via grass and stone pathways, though dogs are not permitted on the farm. Joe's Farm Crisps, established in 2014, produces vegetable-based crisps from carrots, parsnips, beetroot and potatoes.

The sunflower fields offer visitors a chance to escape to the East Cork countryside while supporting a worthy cause, with the bright yellow blooms providing the perfect backdrop for summer photographs.
