An Garda Síochána has issued a parking enforcement notice as the annual Sciath na Scol schools competition takes place at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh this week, with one motorist discovering that avoiding car park fees can prove rather costly.

The popular inter-school GAA tournament has drawn large crowds to the Cork venue, prompting gardaí to remind attendees about proper parking procedures. Officers have emphasised that parking on grass verges is illegal and will result in penalty notices being issued.

In their statement, Gardaí confirmed that one driver has already been ticketed for parking illegally on a grass verge near the venue. The motorist's apparent attempt to save a few pounds on parking fees will likely result in a significantly higher bill arriving in the post.

The force has stressed the importance of observing road markings and temporary traffic cones that have been placed in the area to manage increased traffic flow during the busy sporting week.

For those attending the competition, Gardaí have recommended using the nearby Marina car park, which offers ample parking spaces. Public transport users can avail of regular bus services operating along Blackrock Road, providing convenient access to the venue.

The Sciath na Scol competition represents one of the highlights of the primary school sporting calendar, with teams from across the country competing in Gaelic football and hurling matches throughout the week.
