Driver Clocked at 107km/h in 50km/h Zone on Cork's N20 During Christmas Campaign
Driver caught at 107km/h in 50km/h zone on N20 in Cork city during Christmas road safety operation that detected nearly 26,500 speeding offences.
A motorist was detected travelling at more than double the speed limit on the N20 in Cork city during An Garda Síochána's Christmas road safety operation, which ran from 1st December 2025 to 5th January 2026.
The driver was recorded at 107km/h in a 50km/h zone and was listed among notable speeds detected during the national enforcement campaign.
Across Ireland, the operation resulted in 26 fatalities and over 70 serious collisions. Gardaí conducted nearly 10,000 checkpoints and detected nearly 26,500 drivers for speeding offences.
765 people were arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant during the period, with 56% primarily for alcohol and 44% primarily for drugs. Gardaí also seized nearly 3,000 vehicles, with 59% primarily for no insurance.
Nearly 1,700 Fixed Charge Notices were issued for mobile phone use while driving, and over 450 for non-wearing of seatbelts.
Other notable speeds detected nationally during the campaign included 237km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N7 in Johnstown, County Kildare, and 119km/h in a 50km/h zone on the Drummartin Link Road in Dublin 14.
An Garda Síochána is appealing to all drivers to never drive under the influence of an intoxicant, drive within posted speed limits, never drive while distracted, and always wear a seatbelt.
190 people lost their lives on Irish roads in 2025, with two fatalities already recorded in 2026.
