Driver Arrested in Cork City After Testing Positive for Drugs with No Tax, Insurance or NCT

Gardaí in Cork City have seized a vehicle and arrested its driver after discovering a litany of offences during a routine traffic stop, with the motorist testing positive for drugs whilst driving without tax, insurance or a valid NCT certificate.

Cork City Roads Policing Unit shared details of the incident on social media earlier today, describing the encounter as "The All-Inclusive Package" in a tongue-in-cheek post that has resonated with road safety advocates across the county.

The vehicle was stopped during routine patrols, where officers discovered the car had no current motor tax, no valid insurance, and had failed to secure an NCT certificate. A roadside drug test subsequently returned a positive result, and a search of the vehicle uncovered drugs in the driver's possession.

The car was immediately seized and removed from the road under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act. The driver was arrested and now faces multiple charges, with a court appearance scheduled in the coming weeks.

An Garda Síochána, Cork City Roads Policing Unit:

"Some cars come with heated seats and alloy wheels… This one came with no tax, no insurance, no NCT, positive drug test, drugs found, car taken off the road. The All-Inclusive Package included a free lift to the station and a day out in court."

The case serves as a stark reminder of the serious consequences facing drivers who disregard road traffic legislation. Driving without insurance carries a mandatory court appearance and a potential fine of up to €5,000, alongside five penalty points or a driving disqualification. Drug-driving offences carry similarly severe penalties, including automatic disqualification.

Gardaí continue to conduct roadside operations across Cork City and County as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety. Officers have emphasised that such checkpoints are designed to protect all road users and remove dangerous drivers from circulation.

The force concluded its social media post with a simple message: "Moral of the story, don't roll the dice when it comes to road safety."
