Double Weather Warning Issued for Cork as Heavy Rain and Gales Forecast for Thursday
Heavy rain 11am-8pm and strong winds 11am-11pm bringing flooding risk and coastal gales.
Met Éireann has issued two Status Yellow weather warnings for Cork, with heavy rain and strong winds expected to bring localised flooding and difficult travel conditions throughout Thursday.
Cork is under both a rain warning and a wind warning tomorrow, with the weather alerts covering a 12-hour period as an Atlantic weather system tracks across Munster.
The rain warning, which affects Cork and Kerry, comes into effect at 11:00 tomorrow morning and remains valid until 20:00 tomorrow evening. Met Éireann forecasts spells of heavy rain that could lead to localised flooding, difficult travel conditions and poor visibility across the county.
A separate wind warning covers a wider area including Cork, Kerry, Waterford and Wexford. Very strong and gusty southerly winds with coastal gales will affect the region from 11:00 tomorrow until 23:00 tomorrow night. The warning highlights possible impacts including difficult travel conditions, some fallen trees and wave overtopping along exposed coastlines.
Both warnings were issued yesterday afternoon, giving residents time to prepare for tomorrow's unsettled conditions.
Tonight will see showers dying out this evening with winds easing, leading to a cold and clear start. Mist and frost patches are possible early on, however cloud will build later bringing outbreaks of rain into the southwest towards morning. Southeast winds will strengthen overnight, with lowest temperatures between 1 and 5 degrees.
Tomorrow's wet and windy weather will quickly become widespread, with rain turning heavy at times through the day and leading to spot flooding. A clearance to scattered showers will follow from the west during the evening. Southeast winds will be fresh to strong and gusty, with coastal gales developing. Highest temperatures will range from 11 to 14 degrees.
Friday brings particular interest as Halloween night approaches. Current indications suggest spells of wet weather will affect the country with the chance of hail and lightning, along with misty conditions in places. Trick-or-treaters should prepare for unsettled conditions, with rain beginning to feed into southern areas during the early evening.
Please ensure you secure outdoor items, allow extra time for journeys tomorrow, and stay updated on changing conditions throughout the day.
