Disqualified Driver Caught with Heroin During Bank Holiday Roads Campaign

Cork County Roads Policing Unit arrested a disqualified driver who was under the influence of intoxicants and in possession of heroin during the Bank Holiday weekend enforcement campaign.

The detection occurred as part of the increased roads policing presence typically deployed during bank holiday periods, when traffic volumes rise and road safety risks increase across the county.

Officers discovered the driver was already disqualified from driving when stopped. Testing revealed the individual was driving under the influence of intoxicants. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of diamorphine, commonly known as heroin.

The driver has been charged and will appear before the courts to face multiple serious offences, including driving whilst disqualified, driving under the influence, and drug possession charges.

Bank holiday weekends traditionally see heightened enforcement activity by An Garda Síochána, with checkpoints and patrols focusing on detecting impaired drivers and other road traffic offences. This latest arrest highlights the ongoing risks posed by drivers who choose to break multiple laws simultaneously.

The detection serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety enforcement, particularly during periods of increased traffic movement when families and tourists travel throughout Cork and beyond.
