Defence Forces Conducting Training Exercises at Cork Airport
No cause for concern.
Cork Airport has confirmed to Cork Safety Alerts that the Irish Defence Forces are currently conducting training exercises in and around the airport area, including the old terminal building and surrounding grounds.
The confirmation follows reports from members of the public of a large army presence on the back airport road between Leghenamore and Ballygarvan, as well as people carrying placards in the area.
Cork Airport has confirmed that the placards and protest-style activity are part of the training exercise.
Barry Holland, Cork Airport Communications:
"Any protests that take place on airport grounds have to be approved by Cork Airport in line with the airport bylaws."
There is no cause for public concern. Cork Safety Alerts will update if further information becomes available.
