Crosshaven Coast Guard launched this afternoon to assist a vessel reported adrift with possible persons on board near Monkstown, arriving to find the situation already under control thanks to prompt action from a nearby vessel.

The volunteer crew was tasked this afternoon to reports of a vessel adrift near Monkstown, with concerns that people may have been on board.

Responding in difficult weather conditions, the team made their way to the scene through strong gusting winds and heavy rain.

Upon arrival, the Coast Guard crew discovered the casualty vessel was already being towed to safety by another vessel that had responded to the situation. After confirming there were no persons on board the drifting vessel, the Coast Guard team escorted both vessels safely to a nearby mooring in Monkstown.

Crosshaven Coast Guard praised the assisting vessel in their social media update, stating:

"A big thank you to the assisting vessel for their prompt actions."

The incident serves as a reminder about maritime safety. The Coast Guard emphasised the importance of proper preparation before heading out on the water, urging vessel operators to ensure their craft are well prepared for conditions and that they carry appropriate safety equipment.

The public is reminded that anyone who sees someone in difficulty on the water, or suspects someone may be in difficulty, should immediately dial 112 or 999 and ask for the Irish Coast Guard.
